The 5th seminar of the ‘Paths of historiography: history and social sciences from the 1940s to the present day’ series, part of the official celebrations of the 50th anniversary of 25 de Abril (Portuguese Carnation Revolution of April 25th, 1974), is devoted to the theme of history and memory as means of instrumentalizing the past and the present, at the service of nationalisms or regionalisms.

‘Instrumentalization of the past: commemorativisms and other ritualizations. Historiography and nationalisms’ takes place on February 20th, from 9 am until 6:30 pm, at the University of the Azores in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel island.

Coordinated by IHC / IN2PAST researcher Pedro Martins and CHAM – University of the Azores researcher Susana Serpa Silva, the seminar includes an homonymous round table, moderated by Maria Inácia Rezola (IHC / IN2PAST, Commemorative Committee 50 Anos 25 de Abril), with IN2PAST researchers Afonso Dias Ramos (IHA) and José Neves (IHC).
