Different Perspectives: Education, Participation and Inclusion at School

Greater commitment to project-based learning?

W.Box.Project continues to bear fruit and spark the interest of primary schools in Portugal, with PI Sara Albuquerque, IHC – University of Évora / IN2PAST researcher, taking part in the webinar ‘Different Perspectives: Education, Participation and Inclusion at School’, on Thursday June 26th, at 11 am. The webinar is organised by the Special Education Department of the Manuel Ferreira Patrício Schools Group (AEMFP – Agrupamento de Escolas Manuel Ferreira Patrício), in Évora, Alentejo.

W.Box.Project: The Wardian Case as a Pedagogical Object in the Dissemination of the History of Science is an exploratory project funded by IN2PAST (2023-2024) which, among other outcomes, rethought and recreated the 19th-century portable greenhouse with students aged 9 to 11 years old. At the webinar ‘Diferentes olhares: Educação, Participação e Inclusão na Escola’, Sara is delivering the presentation ‘Tampas no caminho? Apanho todas! Um dia construo uma estufa. (‘Caps in the way? I’ll collect them all! One day I’ll build a greenhouse.’).

Other speakers are Júlio Coincas, Special Education teacher (DGEstE – Direção Geral dos Estabelecimentos Escolares, DSRA – Direção de Serviços da Região do Alentejo) (General Directorate of School Establishments, Alentejo Region Services Directorate) and Isabel Cavas, researcher at CIEP – Centro de Investigação em Educação e Psicologia (Centre for Research in Education and Psychology) – UÉvora. The session will be moderated by Ângela Nunes, Eulália Dias and Teresa Fortio, from the AEMFP’s Special Education Department.

The webinar is aimed at teachers from different areas of specialisation and educational levels, willing to reflect on education, participation and inclusion in schools. It assumes that the models of active, integrative practices and methodologies are the way forward for schools, advocating overcoming the traditional model, where the teacher is the centre of the learning process, in favour of a more collaborative environment, where students are the protagonists of their own education, greater flexibility and adaptation, and a focus on skills.

After a general overview of practices at the AEMFP and the presentation of W.Box.Project’s project-based learning application involving different players in the 2nd cycle, the webinar ends with the results presentation of a study on being a teacher at the Learning Support Centre.
