‘IN2PAST PhD Talks’ Series will be in Guimarães on April 4^th, with a session entitled ‘Almada Negreiros: a cross-disciplinary approach between art history and heritage sciences’. Researchers Milene Gil (HERCULES – University of Évora / IN2PAST) and Mariana Pinto dos Santos (IHA – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST) will be presenting; Lab2PT – University of Minho / IN2PAST researchers João Cabeleira and Isabel Fernandes will kick-off the conversation.

It starts at 2:30 pm, in room 1.09 at the School of Architecture, Art and Design (EAAD) of the University of Minho, on the Azurém Campus. This talk is organized not only for the scientific and academic community, but is open to all; access is free, subject only to room capacity. Those unable to atttend can watch via Zoom.

Using videos and images, Milene Gil will present the works being studied, the structure and the main lines of research of project ALMADA: Unveiling the Mural Painting Art of Almada Negreiros (1938-1956), which she leads at HERCULES, as well as the technical and materials studies, and ongoing diagnosis, in addition to some results that highlight the contribution of this type of research to different disciplines dedicated to the knowledge, valorization and safeguarding of cultural heritage.

The intersections with art history will be explored by Mariana Pinto dos Santos, who will present the work developed at the Almada Negreiros – Sarah Affonso Study and Documentation Center (CEDANSA), a partnership between IHA and the Institute for the Study of Traditional Literature (IELT), from the deposit of the documental archive to the research being carried out, including challenges and interrogations.
