Exploratory project ‘Landscapes of terror, violence, and forensic heritages in the postcolonial Lusophone space’ aims to develop a research agenda on how violence is inscribed in memory and heritage regimes within the post-colonial context of Portuguese colonialism and the post-colonial Lusophone space.
In this presentation, we propose to test and operationalize the project’s main conceptual contribution – the idea of ‘forensic heritage’ – by calling on and discussing empirical case studies, based on current and previous research conducted by team members. We will concentrate on specific cases (places, landscapes, buildings, ruins, or discourses) within post-colonial contexts such as the ones in Ethiopia, Angola, and Guinea-Bissau, or post-dictatorial contexts, like in Portugal and Spain.
