IN2PAST’s exploratory project InDigit was featured in radio programme 90 Segundos de Ciência with principal investigator Rodrigo Lacerda (CRIA – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST) talking about the research being done together with the Kamayurá indigenous people, who live in the Upper Xingu in Brazil, based on their collection located at the Portuguese National Museum of Ethnology (NME), in Lisbon, Portugal.
InDigit aims to develop a prototype digital repository with methodologies inspired by the experience of the Kamayurá Archive project. ‘At the moment what they have is a set of files on their computers and so one of the additional objectives of this project funded by IN2PAST is to think collaboratively about how to build an online archive based on the categories that make the most sense to the Kamayurá,’ Rodrigo explains, giving the example of associating objects and images to a particular ritual, which is not the typical organization of cultural artefacts at European museums.
90 Segundos de Ciência is a Portuguese radio programme ‘that gives Portuguese researchers a voice’, airing online and twice a day on national radio Antena 1. Episode N.º 1974 Rodrigo Lacerda – Projeto colaborativo desenvolve arquivo digital de povos indígenas das Terras Baixas da América do Sul aired on March 19th and is available here and here.
