The first analytical insights into Charles Lepierre’s Portuguese ceramics collection at the Sèvres – Manufacture et Musée Nationaux (France) were presented by Mathilda Coutinho (HERCULES – University of Évora / IN2PAST), PI of IN2PAST exploratory project 2LEGACY, at the Interim Meeting of the ICOM-CC Art Technological Source Research (ATSR) Working Group held on 21-23 May 2025 at the NOVA School of Science and Technology, Caparica campus, Portugal.

With the title ‘Exploring Collection: Cross-Disciplinary Approaches in Art Technological Research’, the meeting sought to explore the notion of collections and how it may expand the scope of art technological source research. Mathilda presented the communication Exploring the role of raw materials in Portuguese ceramic crafts to bring Lepierre’s Legacy to the Future: First Analytical Insights into Lepierre’s Collection at the Sèvres –Manufacture et Musée Nationaux (France) on the afternoon of May 22^nd in Session III, ‘Craft Legacies Revisited Through Art Technological Research’, chaired by fellow team member and VICARTE researcher Márcia Vilarigues.

2LEGACY’s team was at the Manufacture et Musée Nationaux de Sèvres, in the outskirts of Paris, in the beginning of February, analysing Lepierre’s collection’s chemical composition and colour palette with a portable XRF spectrometer and hyperspectral imaging (HSI), and studying and photographing the Estremoz ceramic collection.
