The final seminar of project ALMADA will be held on March 14th at the Gare Marítima da Rocha do Conde de Óbidos, in Lisbon, and everyone is invited.
Between 9:30 am (reception from 8:45 am) and 3:30 pm, you will have the opportunity to interact with the team and find out more about this project led by HERCULES Laboratory – University of Évora / IN2PAST which, over four years, has promoted the scientific study of pictorial, materials and diagnosis techniques of Almada Negreiros’ mural paintings, as guides for their conservation and enjoyment. At 3:30 pm, O Desvendar da Arte da Pintura Mural de Almada Negreiros. Imagens de um projeto transdisciplinar (The Unveiling of the Art of Almada Negreiros’ Mural Painting. Images from a transdisciplinary project) is launched, with Catarina and Rita Almada Negreiros, the artist’s granddaughters and project consultants.
Admission is free and the seminar, which will be held in Portuguese, has the partnership of the National Arts Plan (Plano Nacional das Artes – PNA). The PNA’s Academy will ensure that the seminar is recognized as a short-term action (Ação de Curta Duração). With a maximum capacity of 100 seats in the auditorium, registration is required and must be completed using this form by March 5th. The meeting includes a buffet lunch in the Almada Hall at the Rocha do Conde de Óbidos maritime station.
With the participation of principal investigator (PI) Milene Gil, co-PI António Candeias, numerous other members of the team who are also researchers at HERCULES / IN2PAST, such as Ana Catarina Pinheiro, Ana Manhita, Carlo Bottaini, Cristina Barrocas Dias, Luís Dias, Mafalda Costa and Sara Valadas, project grant holders Inês Cardoso, Leonel Corado and José Carlos Frade, and other members of the team and collaborators, such as IHA – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST researchers Mariana Pinto dos Santos and Giorgia Casara, HERCULES / IN2PAST researcher José Mirão, the Institute for the Study of Literature and Tradition (IELT) researcher Simão Palmeirim, VISTA Lab / Centro ALGORITMI (University of Évora) researcher José Saias or Ana Margarida Cardoso (Museus e Monumentos de Portugal), the seminar will take you on a journey through the modus operandi, the creative process, the pigments or the organic materials used by Almada Negreiros.
And because ALMADA is for everyone, everywhere, the team will also present its strategy for disseminating open science and raising awareness of the project’s heritage, which earned it the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2023 in the Citizens’ Engagement & Awareness-raising category.
