The new Joint International Workshop (JIW) ‘Hopes and Fears: Anti-colonial and Postcolonial Imaginaries in the Lusotopy and Beyond’ (2025-2029) has its first presentation meeting and informal talk on March 14th, at 10 am, in Lisbon, at NOVA FCSH, Avenida de Berna campus, room B301 (Tower B, Third Floor).
IN2PAST researchers from all scientific areas interested in postcolonialism and decolonisation issues, and in forging ‘a transnational and innovative collaboration for knowledge exchange to develop theories and concepts’, and to consider decolonisation history from a comparative and diverse perspective are welcome to join in.
This JIW brings together the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC) – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST, in Portugal, and the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), in Brazil.
Fifty years since the end of Portuguese African colonial rule, ‘we want to draw links, connect researchers, and offer alternative imaginaries of the future’, state proponents Pedro Aires Oliveira, Mélanie Toulhoat and Carmina Yu Untalan, IHC – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST researchers. A calendar of activities is already prepared and the JIW Organizing Committee meets with Brazilian members from PUCRS and USP in the second half of March.
