In the week we celebrate International Women’s Day, on March 8, and the birth centenary of Portuguese Archaeology pioneer Maria de Lourdes Costa Arthur, on March 10, the Archaeology Section of the Geographical Society of Lisbon proposes, in collaboration with IHC – University of Évora/ IN2PAST, UNIARQ – Archaeology Centre at Universidade de Lisboa and CAL – Lisbon Archaeology Centre, an international seminar titled ‘Women in Archaeology: Strati(graphies)2’.

It will be held on Wednesday, March 6th, from 9:45 am to 5:30 pm, in the Adriano Moreira Auditorium of the Geographical Society of Lisbon (GSL). Admittance is free and there is also access via Zoom.

If you go to no. 100, Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, in Lisbon, however, you will also have the opportunity to visit a bibliographic exhibition set up especially for the occasion, on the 4th floor.

At 10:40 am, IHC – UÉvora/ IN2PAST researcher Ana Cristina Martins presents the communication ‘Recovered memories: Maria de Lourdes Costa Arthur (1924-2003)’.

Member of the Scientific and Organizing Committee of this seminar, Ana Cristina presides the Archaeology Section of GSL and is an expert on the life and work of Maria de Lourdes Costa Arthur.

At 4:10 pm, HERCULES – UÉvora/ IN2PAST researcher Ana Curto co-presents ‘Between fragments, life stories: maternal and perinatal mortality in the Portuguese archaeological context. But there is much more to listen to and discuss: check the full program here.
