In 2003, UNESCO approved the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, regarding intangible cultural assets, and associated material and natural elements, which are expressive of collective identities and memories of groups and communities. While the processes of inventorying and recording this heritage have been increasingly discussed and applied in Portugal, the dynamics associated with its sustainable safeguarding, valorization and dissemination require greater recognition, and theoretical and practical development.
Accredited by UNESCO as Non-Governmental Organization providing advisory services to the Intergovernmental Committee in the framework of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and with extensive experience in researching and promoting this field, CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology / IN2PAST invites cultural agents, municipal technicians, entrepreneurs and other interested parties to register for the course ‘Safeguarding, valorization and dissemination of Intangible Cultural Heritage: 20 years of the UNESCO Convention’. From the promotion of the means of transmission to the commodification of cultural assets, including different functions of museology, the course takes into account the principles of the Convention in its recognition of groups and communities as privileged players in the practices of knowledge and dissemination of their heritage.
