Researchers from different IN2PAST research units, such as IHC, CRIA and HERCULES Lab., took part on Saturday, April 12^th, in a dialogued tour of the exhibition ‘Não visitem a sala colonial’ (‘Do not visit the colonial room’), at the Museum of Lamego, in the North of Portugal, and in the round table that followed, focused on the colonial past and how to use it, together with other non-academic museum attendees.

Organised by the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC) as part of its discussion series ‘O Passado em Cena’ (‘The Past on Stage‘) and welcomed by the museum, the initiative falls into the activity plan for IN2PAST’s Thematic Line 5 (TL5), Cultural Transfers, Public Policies on Memory and Inclusive Citizenship. Artist and exhibition curator Catarina Simão, IHC – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST researcher Sofia Lisboa and Ruy Llera Blanes (CRIA – Iscte / IN2PAST) participated in the round table, moderated by Luís Trindade (IHC – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST). Luís and Ruy are the coordinators of TL5.

The dialogued tour also included the screening of Sala Colonial, o filme (‘Colonial Room, the film’) directed by Catarina Simão. The exhibition, open until April 27^th, is the result of the artistic, and cultural and educational mediation project ‘Sala Colonial’, a collaboration between Catarina, the Lamego Museum and the local Latino Coelho Secondary School, started in 2021.

Held as part of the programme celebrating the 50th anniversary of ‘25 de Abril’ (1974 Portuguese revolution) and co-funded by DGARTES, the exhibition is heralded by the museum as ‘a privileged space for discussion and co-participation extended to a large number of national and international partnerships’.
