HERCULES Laboratory – Cultural Heritage, Studies and Safeguard, the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA), the Centre for the Study of the Sociology and Aesthetics of Music (CESEM), and the Centre for Art History and Artistic Research (CHAIA), four of IN2PAST’s research units, are taking the Associate Laboratory to the European Researchers’ Night 2024, which takes place next Friday, September 27th, across Europe, on the theme of ‘Science for global challenges (SCIGLO)’.
HERCULES – University of Évora / IN2PAST is responsible for the local organisation of the European Researchers’ Night 2024 in the city-museum, with a programme comprising dozens of face-to-face and online activities. At the HERCULES stand in Évora’s Praça 1.º de Maio (next to the Municipal Market), between 5 pm and 10.30 pm, you can chat with our researchers and take part in demonstrations, games, workshops, themed visits and much more.
At 7:30 pm, meet up with CESEM – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST researcher Luzia Rocha, who will present IN2PAST’s exploratory project SuitNanoMusic – Suitability of Nanomaterials for Preservation of Tangible Musical Cultural Heritage. Between 5:30 and 10 pm, at 30-minute intervals, you can take part in the Workshop Cabinet of Wonder Évora: graphic and geometric moments of the city, with CHAIA – UÉvora / IN2PAST researcher Vitor Gomes. And ‘Discovering sgraffito in Évora’ is the title of the guided tour with CHAIA – UÉvora / IN2PAST researcher Sofia Salema, at 7 pm.
From 6 to 10 pm, UÉvora School of Arts student Francisco Bandola will be painting a mural as part of the ‘Évora seen by HERCULES & HERCULES seen by Évora’ initiative. And between 7:15 and 7:30 pm, CHAIA – UÉvora / IN2PAST and CESEM – UÉvora / IN2PAST researchers Isabel Bezelga and Monika Streitová, and their students, will offer us a poetry recital and musical performance aimed at representing HERCULES Laboratory’s objetives.
In Spain, HERCULES – UÉvora / IN2PAST researchers Catarina Miguel and Maria João Penetra will take the workshop ‘De Mirar a Ver – Estudios de Patrimonio Cultural en el Laboratorio HERCULES de la Universidad de Évora’ to the Mérida hub of the University of Extremadura, as part of the EUGreen alliance.
In Lisbon, CRIA will be at the National Museum of Natural History and Science (MUHNAC), between 5 pm and midnight, with activities ‘Sharing a Planet: coexistence of humans and non-humans’ (‘Partilhando um Planeta: coexistência de humanos e não humanos’) and ‘Building Neighbourhoods – a collaborative game’ (‘Construindo Vizinhança – um jogo colaborativo’.
‘Sharing a Planet’ consists of five interactive activities organised by CRIA – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST researchers Amélia Frazão-Moreira, Chloe Chesney, Darya Sevastópolska, Filipa Borges, Isa Aleixo-Pais, Margarida Fernandes e Tânia Minhós: ’Find the trace! ’, ‘Primate Banquet’, ‘Draw Your Neighbours!’, ‘Protecting Great Apes from Disease’ and ‘What Have We Learned from Trapping Cameras?’.
‘Building Neighbourhood’ is a collaborative game designed by Luís Filipe Olival (CRIA –University of Coimbra / IN2PAST), Catarina Mateus (DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte) and Guilherme Luz (FCUL), in which participants will be invited to put themselves in the role of new inhabitants of a gentrified urban neighbourhood, and cooperate to solve problems… by building neighbourhood.
At MUHNAC, also from 5 pm onwards, CESEM – NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST researchers Joana Peliz and Maria Sempiterno invite you to discover the inks used in the slides projected with the Magic Lantern, the first image projector, as a pretext for communicating the MAGICA project: Magic Lantern – Study, Safeguard, Uses and Reuses in 19th-Century Portugal.
