“On astonishment and indignation. Race, whiteness and criminality in Italy” is the title of the presentation that Gaia Giuliani (IHC – NOVA FCSH) / IN2PAST will give at the launch of the special issue of the journal “Studies on the Criminal Question”: “Race” and the criminal issue in today’s Italy (edited by Stefania Crocitti, Claudia Mantovan and Dario Melossi). The journal also features an article written by the researcher.
Other speakers will be Dario Melossi and Stefania Crocitti (University of Bologna: Incarceration of foreigners and processes of ‘racialisation’: a comparative study of the United States and Italy), Eleonora Di Molfetta and Fabio Quassoli (University of Milan-Bicocca: ‘Black Africans, for instance, have never been seen shoplifting!’. Critical reflections on the construction of otherness in the criminal justice system), Claudia Mantovan (University of Padua), Sofia Ciuffoletti (University of Florence), Veronica Marchio (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice): Roma and Sinti women and the criminal justice system: an intersectional analysis.
The discussants will be Annalisa Frisina and Omid Firouzi Tabar, from University of Padua.
