IN2PAST \u2013 Associate Laboratory shall welcome at least three new PhD<\/a> Studentship holders under the 2024 Call for PhD Studentships \u2013 Specific Line of Application in a Non-academic Environment<\/a> (BDANA), of which the prelimlinary results<\/a> were announced by the Portuguese funding agency Funda\u00e7\u00e3o para a Ci\u00eancia e a Tecnologia (FCT) at the beginning of August: Maria Figueira (IHC \u2013 University of \u00c9vora \/ IN2PAST), Emanuela Const\u00e2ncia Boccia (CHAIA \u2013 U\u00c9vora \/ IN2PAST) and Manuel Carapito da Concei\u00e7\u00e3o (IHC \u2013 U\u00c9vora \/ IN2PAST).<\/p>

With a project entitled \u2018Exhibitions, colonial collections and their (in)visibilities (1884-1940). Construction and dissemination of knowledge in Portuguese museums: a comparative and transnational perspective\u2019 (\u2018Exposi\u00e7\u00f5es, cole\u00e7\u00f5es coloniais e suas (in)visibilidades (1884-1940). Constru\u00e7\u00e3o e dissemina\u00e7\u00e3o de conhecimentos em museus portugueses: uma perspetiva comparativa e transnacional<\/em>\u2019), Maria Figueira<\/a> attends the doctoral programme in History and Philosophy of Science, specialisation in Museology<\/a> at the University of \u00c9vora and is supervised at IN2PAST by IHC \u2013 U\u00c9vora researcher Elisabete Pereira<\/a>.<\/p>

Maria\u2019s project is being hosted by the Santos Rocha Municipal Museum, in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, and the Pitt Rivers Museum, at the University of Oxford, UK, under the supervision, respectively, of museum director Manuela Silva and project researcher Lennon Mhishi. Find out more<\/a>.<\/p>

\u2018The Gesture-Pause: Tapestry as Resistance to Visual Ephemerality in Contemporary Society\u2019 (\u2018O Gesto-Pausa: A Tape\u00e7aria como Resist\u00eancia \u00e0 Efemeridade Visual na Sociedade Contempor\u00e2nea<\/em>\u2019) is the title of Emanuela Const\u00e2ncia Boccia<\/a>‘s project, supervised by our researcher Teresa Veiga Furtado<\/a> (CHAIA \u2013 U\u00c9vora \/ IN2PAST) and Pedro Pousada, director of the College of Arts at the University of Coimbra and co-coordinator of its PhD programme in Contemporary Arts<\/a>. Emanuela\u2019s non-academic supervisor is Rui Miguel Lobo, director of the Arraiolos Tapestry Interpretation Centre, in Arraiolos, Alentejo, Portugal, where the CHAIA \u2013 U\u00c9vora \/ IN2PAST PhD researcher will also develop her work. Also worthy of the FCT funding is Manuel Carapito da Concei\u00e7\u00e3o<\/a>‘s project, \u2018The political elites of Covilh\u00e3 (1910 to 1974): a social analysis’ (\u2018As elites pol\u00edticas covilhanenses (1910 a 1974): uma an\u00e1lise social<\/em>\u2019). Supervised by Maria de F\u00e1tima Nunes<\/a> (IHC \u2013 U\u00c9vora \/ IN2PAST), the doctoral student in History, specialising in Contemporary History<\/a> at U\u00c9vora has the Municipal Archive of Covilh\u00e3 and the Archive of the Santa Casa da Miseric\u00f3rdia at Covilh\u00e3, both in the Portuguese city of the same name, as non-academic hosting institutions.
