Better known as Frei (friar) Manuel do Cen\u00e1culo (March 1st, 1724, Lisbon \u2013 January 26th, 1814, \u00c9vora), the influential intellectual, art collector and pioneer of archaeology in Portugal is celebrated on the tricentenary of his birth by the former Museum of \u00c9vora, promoted to National Museum in 2017 and bearing his name.<\/p><p>On October 10, 11 and 12th, 2024, the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/colloquiumcenaculo.weebly.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colloqvivm<\/a><\/em> \u2018Towards \u201cPublic Happiness\u201d: On the Tricentenary of the Birth of Brother Manuel do Cen\u00e1culo Villas-Boas (1724 \u2013 1814)\u2019 is held at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museusemonumentos.pt\/pt\/museus-e-monumentos\/museu-nacional-frei-manuel-do-cenaculo-e-igreja-de-nossa-senhora-das-merces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frei Manuel do Cen\u00e1culo National Museum<\/a>, in \u00c9vora, and at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bpe.bnportugal.gov.pt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00c9vora&#8217;s Public Library<\/a> (Biblioteca P\u00fablica de \u00c9vora), organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciavitae.pt\/portal\/6417-A309-D514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sandra Leandro<\/a>, IHA \u2013 NOVA FCSH \/ IN2PAST researcher and the museum\u2019s director, and Ant\u00f3nio Gil Malta (Universidade Cat\u00f3lica Portuguesa), with the participation of numerous experts, including several IN2PAST researchers. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.<\/p><p>The opening lecture is held by Francisco Louren\u00e7o Vaz (CIDEHUS \u2013 University of \u00c9vora), on the \u2018Education and Economy in the work of Brother Manuel do Cen\u00e1culo\u2019, and the closing lecture is held by Fernanda Campos, CHAM \u2013 NOVA FCSH researcher, on \u2018Brother Manuel do Cen\u00e1culo and the Royal Printing House [Impress\u00e3o R\u00e9gia]: the Author and Publishing Promoter\u2019s Activity\u2019.<\/p><p>IN2PAST researchers Sandra Leandro, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciavitae.pt\/portal\/7115-4010-9565\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ana Cristina Martins<\/a> (IHC \u2013 U\u00c9vora), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciavitae.pt\/portal\/A415-931B-5D04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maria Jo\u00e3o Pereira Coutinho<\/a> (IHA \u2013 NOVA FCSH), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciavitae.pt\/portal\/8518-ABE2-D4AA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andreia Santos Silva<\/a> (CHAIA \u2013 U\u00c9vora) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cienciavitae.pt\/portal\/FB16-EA12-E1D8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ant\u00f3nio Carvalho<\/a> (IHC \u2013 NOVA FCSH) are also holding lectures on several topics.
